Jelly and Jam

Now is the time to get fresh Michigan fruit at Eastern Market, and we've been busy making Christmas gifts on the weekend.

Blueberry jam is easy to make and divine. This is the first time I've tried a jelly, and it certainly wouldn't win any prizes for clarity. I think I did something wrong in the juice preparation phase and activated the pectin. The directions say not to squeeze the bag, but the currants coagulated almost as soon as I hung them up. It will still make a nice glaze for a roast.

Middleville Tour

Towner House According to the YHF

These are some clips about the Towner House I copied from YHF newsletters while we were still living in Ypsilanti. We decided to move before I figured out what happened to it.

"Bring paint scrapers, wire brushes, and your lunch - we'll provide coffee We had two good work sessions on the inside of the house last fall - we should be able to get a lot done on the outside in two days." June 14, 1975

"At this writing, the house has been about half scrapped and primed and, hopefully, by the time of our first meeting, the scraping and the priming will be done and a good part of the final paint coat will be on and the house will soon be an asset to the community again. We had some help with scraping we NEED HELP WITH PAINTING!" September 24, 1975

These are some bits I copied from YHF newsletters when we were still living in Ypsilanti.

"DOWNTOWN YPSILANTI - LOOKING UP? Did you know that the city has recently been awarded a matching grant of $7,000 from the State History Division for a Facade Study of downtown Ypsilatni?? This means $14,000 will be used to study and draw up designs for revivication of fronts in our downtown area. In most cases where this kind os study has been made, visible improvements have followed.

Coincidence?

We have so much in common with the former owners of our house it's creepy. This was their first house. He was into radios and militaria. She didn't work outside the house and spent her summers gardening and tending to the fruit trees out back. Let's hope we don't start a family and forget about finishing the upstairs and the storefront.
