Post details: Ypsilanti Township Elections
Ypsilanti Township Elections
I was hoping that some candidates were missing from my Publius ballot, but eWashtenaw also shows 4 Ypsilanti Township candidates running unopposed. Remember William T. Lawson? Not only is he unopposed, there are 2 positions open.
Other than Ruth Ann Jamnick, all of the Ypsilanti Township candidates are part of Team Stumbo, responsible for internet filters on Ypsilanti Library computers and accused of chilling free speech with a lawsuit against a community newspaper.
Even in races where it looks like there is some choice, there really isn't. Of the 4 candidates running for 2 Township Trustee positions, 3 are of the Stumbo clan.
10 people, 9 of which are Democrats, are running for 9 positions on the Township Parks Commision. Instead of voting for 9, I'm only going to vote for the Republican in hopes that she'll bring a different veiw from the others to the commision.
Given my options, here are my current voting plans:
Ruth Ann Jamnick (D) - Ypsilanti Township Supervisor
WRITE-IN - Ypsilanti Township Clerk
WRITE-IN - Ypsilanti Township Treasurer
David Ostrowski (D) and WRITE-IN - Ypsilanti Township Trustee
WRITE-IN and WRITE-IN - Ypsilanti Township Constable
Christine Adams (R)- Ypsilanti Township Park Commisions
Very sad.
Anyone who would like to be a write-in candidate, please leave a comment.

Raymond: Steve and I will both vote for you. I bet Laura would vote for you, too. In fact, if you file an "intent to run" at the clerk's office before the election, I think you'd win the second seat.
You'd probably have to work with Lawson though. That could be a real drag.
You probably already know this, but Ruth Ann Jamnick tried to run a slate of candidates for the remainder of the Township Trustee offices, as well as for Clerk. So Grandpa Stumbo himself, founder of the Stumbo Dynasty, came up from Kentucky (*I think*) to manage (read: ENSURE) the re-election bid. Needless to say, the only successful Coup Candidate was Jamnick herself, who certainly faces an uphill battle in her first term as Supervisor.
Being nine months pregnant and unsure when our baby will make her grand entrance, Aaron and I voted absentee already. We rebelled against a number of "good ole boy" Democratic candidates who we feel are dropping the ball because, well, they can.
Personally, I am not happy with several county-wide officials who refused to endorse Larry for County Clerk, even though he is a member of their own party. Their version of helping Larry was to "not support Peggy." Do these people really think that this will help them in future bids where they have a strong Republican opponent? To be sure, if and when the situation is reversed, Peggy Haines WILL ACTIVELY endorse the Republican candidate.
End of rant. Keep up the good work. Perhaps Aaron and I will be fortunate enough to meet you and Steven in person at some point.

My Bad!
I read something about Stumbo forgiving township taxes on a property owned by a relative from Kentucky. (found it: http://www.aclumich.org/modules.php?name=AvantGo&file=print&sid=369)
On the local Green party website, Riney also claims that Lovejoy-Roe spit on someone gathering signatures to oppose the incinerator. I'm not sure I believe either side at this point.
Congratulations and good luck! Mark and Linette recently had a baby... http://www.markmaynard.com/
Streaming video of the candidate's forum is available on the Ypsi District Library web site at:

I am supporting the two incumbants, Deckard and Hale, and Schollaert. They are all strong supporters of intellectual freedom and access to information.
