Coincidence?
We have so much in common with the former owners of our house it's creepy. This was their first house. He was into radios and militaria. She didn't work outside the house and spent her summers gardening and tending to the fruit trees out back. Let's hope we don't start a family and forget about finishing the upstairs and the storefront.
Chaos and Evel in Hamtramck

The trip was uneventful. Chaos cried while Evel played dead.
Books for Children
One's of Mark's recent posts reminded me of a book I used to read as a child called Struwwelpeter. My grandmother will be pleased to hear that it is now available online, complete with the original illustrations.

Snip! Snap! Snip! the scissors go;
And Conrad cries out - Oh! Oh! Oh!
Snip! Snap! Snip! They go so fast;
That both his thumbs are off at last.
Mamma comes home; there Conrad stands,
And looks quite sad, and shows his hands;-
"Ah!" said Mamma "I knew he'd come
To naughty little Suck-a-Thumb."
Things that don't come with a newly constructed house
- Unidentified painted objects. This one is on the back of our bathroom door.
- Home blessing by the seller.
- Mystery keys and pills.
- Dipole Antennas
- Books with little handwritten notes in them.
- Swords and knives.
- Pictures of the house in the 50's.
Hamtramck Star
Steve and I have a new blog about our life in Hamtramck.
It'll be more interesting when we actually live there. I promise.
Goals for 2005
We were only 1 for 3 last year, though we did get married and I'm sure that counts for something.
- Open store - Not possible. Storefronts in Ypsilanti need too much work, getting venture capital for retail operations is impossible, and health insurance is too expensive.
- Buy house in the City of Ypsilanti - 4 days from buying a house in the City of Hamtramck. I feel like we dodged a bullet.
- Replace car - check!
This year, we have a little more on our plate.
- Move to Hamtramck.
- Have roof replaced.
- Rewire home electrical system.
- Install lead filration system.
- Complete repairs suggested by home inspector.
- Plant herb garden.
- Plant vegetables.
- Consider planting fruit trees.
- Camp at least one weekend.
- More canning, including some cherries this year.
- Maintain 2 blogs.
